How to Date a Shy Guy

A shy guy can make a wonderful romantic partner. But be cautious to prevent inadvertently pushing him too far. He has pride, and his limit for humiliation differs from person to person.

If he likes you, he’ll tell his friends about you. This will help him get comfortable around you.

1. Be a good listener

Unlike extroverts, shy guys don’t talk much, so they rely on their listening skills to communicate. If he listens to you, it means that he cares and is interested in what you’re saying. You should be able to feel that.

Shy guys often open up about their feelings over time, but it can be hard to know if they’re into you at first. Don’t force him to talk about his emotions if he’s reluctant to do so.

Be patient and don’t get discouraged if there are awkward silences during your dates. These silent periods can help you bond with each other in different ways. Don’t mock him if he stumbles or drops things when he speaks, as this will only bruise his ego. Instead, be supportive and show him that you care about him.

2. Ask him open-ended questions

A shy guy who has a crush on you will try to keep around you under the weirdest of pretexts. He will find excuses to be near you like taking the same bus, going to the same class or walking on the same path in the wee hours of the morning.

Shy guys are also known for dropping bombshells about themselves in conversation. It’s a good idea to ask open-ended questions when you have the opportunity to talk with him one-on-one.

It’s important to remember that shyness is not a choice and should be respected. Fighting with him about his social anxiety is not helpful, especially when he may be suffering from underlying traumas and anxieties. Instead, appreciating him for his introverted personality will go a long way in building trust and admiration.

3. Ask him to help you

While shy guys may not show a lot of physical affection in public, they will try to make you feel special. They may not book a yacht or write a love letter, but they will remember to buy your favorite ice cream for you or stay up later than normal to catch a movie with you. These are subtle yet sweet gestures that can be considered one of the signs he likes you.

Shy guys tend to hide their emotions, but they will still need a clear indication that you are interested in them. This could be through a smile, a casual “hello”, or even just holding eye contact for a little longer. By letting him know that you are interested in him, he will feel encouraged to take the next step.

4. Share a secret with him

It may be a bit confusing when you’re dating a shy guy. He may not book a yacht to surprise you or go out for dinner at a fancy restaurant. However, he will probably remember to buy your favorite ice cream or drive you home after a long day at work.

Shy guys are introverts and can feel overwhelmed with continuous interaction. They may have awkward silences, but don’t take this as a sign that they don’t like you or aren’t interested in you.

Don’t interrogate him or ask too many questions about his life. He will open up when he wants to, and forcing him to talk is counterproductive. Let him know you trust him and are there for him. This will make him feel secure.

5. Don’t talk about other guys

If you’re dating a shy guy, it’s important to remember that he’ll need some alone time from time to time. This means that he’s likely to text you less or miss your calls, but he’ll always try his hardest to make it up to you. Shy guys are usually very dependable and will always show you how much they care for you.

You should also avoid talking about other guys when you’re with him, as this may make him feel uncomfortable and nervous. Also, avoid touching him too often, as this could scare him. Instead, focus on finding out what his interests are and then plan some activities that you both enjoy together. This will give him a chance to open up and talk more voluntarily at his own pace.

6. Make eye contact

Shy guys are often very sensitive, and they can feel hurt when you act cold towards them. This is why it’s important to make eye contact with them, even if you don’t talk much. It will show that you care about them and that you’re interested in them.

If you want to get to know him better, try talking about the little things about yourself like your favourite colour or the name of your dog. These are the kinds of details that he will remember and will make him feel like you’re a friend who knows him very well.

Many women make the mistake of overdoing it with shy guys, assuming that being overly friendly and easy will reassure them. However, this can actually cause them to retreat further into their shell!

7. Make him feel comfortable

Shy guys aren’t comfortable being surrounded by people. They prefer to hang out with you one on one. Compliment him on his hobbies and interests, but don’t force him to open up. He might need time to process the information and decide if it’s something worth sharing with you.

He’s not shy because he doesn’t like you; it’s just his natural personality trait. He may not show public displays of affection but he’s likely trying to let you know that he’s into you. He might surprise you with a gift or buy your favorite food. These are small gestures that count as signs he’s into you. He also might mention your name in front of his friends, which is a big deal to him.
