What Happens on the Third Date?

people, man, woman

Forget everything you think you know about the third date. Just because sex hasn’t come up yet doesn’t mean your date wants to get serious.

This date is usually less nerve-wracking than the first two. It’s okay to flirt and engage in more suggestive conversation and a little PDA is typically fine.

1. You Get to Know Each Other Better

Women are inquisitive and want to know as much as possible about a guy. They’re also more likely to decide at this point whether or not they want to spend more time with him.

She’s likely to get a feel for a man’s sense of humor and how they interact with people in a group setting. She may also ask questions about their career or life goals.

It’s also a great time to show some PDA. Hold his hand or lightly touch him while you laugh at his jokes. Just be mindful that some men are uncomfortable with public displays of affection. It’s okay to let them know if this is a dealbreaker for you. It will save you the trouble of trying to work things out at a later date.

2. You’re More Comfortable

The third date is a great time to get more comfortable with your date. Try something fun and casual that you both enjoy like hiking or going for a bike ride. It’s also a good opportunity to talk more about yourself and your interests.

Some people have the myth that sex should happen by the third date, but it’s important to remember that not everyone is ready for physical intimacy at the same time. Don’t pressure your partner into doing what you want or expect them to do.

If they’re displaying closed body language or giving one-word answers, you might be better off waiting for another opportunity. It’s not necessarily a red flag, but it might be a sign that they’re not ready for a serious relationship.

3. You’re More Confident

Having a third date can feel like a major milestone. By now you’ve gotten to know each other well enough to decide whether or not there is chemistry and where you want the relationship to go.

While the third date is often when sex becomes a topic of conversation, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are in a relationship or that you will sleep together. It’s just a good time to see if you are compatible in terms of your life goals and whether or not he has any deal breakers.

If he does bring up sex and you’re not interested, that’s fine. You can still continue to date him and work out the relationship in your own way. The important thing is to communicate openly and honestly so that there are no surprises.

4. You’re More Open

For most people, a third date is the point at which they are ready to discuss serious topics such as their intentions and deal breakers. However, not everyone will be ready at this point and it’s important to respect that.

It’s also a good time to discuss future plans for the relationship, such as when they are hoping to get married or start a family. This isn’t always easy, but it’s a great way to show your interest in one another and keep the conversation going. However, it’s best to be casual about this and remember that it is still early days.

5. You’re More Talkative

Some people believe that date three is the time to take things sexually to the next level. But that doesn’t always have to be the case. Ultimately, it’s about what works for you and your partner.

A third date is a great time to talk in-depth about your personal goals and aspirations. It’s also a great opportunity to find out more about your date, such as their life goals and what they’re looking for in a relationship.

You can get a little more flirty and silly on the third date too, which is good for your sense of chemistry. You can hold hands, tease each other and kiss when appropriate. Bringing out your fun, playful teenager self will help you connect with your date.

6. You’re More Physically Attuned

Many people believe that the third date is the time to talk about sex. However, this is a completely subjective rule and it’s not always the right time to bring up intimacy. If he wants to take it to the next level, he will let you know and will make his intentions clear.

On the other hand, if you feel like you’re in a Goldilocks moment and that things are not too early or too late, this could be a great time to initiate physical intimacy. Kisses, hugs, and holding hands are all acceptable ways to start showing that you’re romantically interested in him.

Remember, if the topic of sex doesn’t come up on the third date, don’t be alarmed. This just means that he’s still in the getting-to-know-you stage.

7. You’re More Intimate

The third date is a great time to get into some deeper conversations. Try something like a truth or dare game, 21 questions, or a restrained never have I ever to help you both uncover the things that really matter to you.

You may also find yourself talking more openly about sex by this point, but even if it doesn’t get to that level, it’s okay! Not everyone is on the same timeline for intimacy, and you should never feel pressure to make it happen. It’s all about finding a pace that works for you and your partner. And who knows, by the end of your third date you might be talking about sex! Or you might not. It all depends on what your intuition is telling you.
